i finally finished building something in 3d coat. !! and it's not my usual organic creature stuff. !!x2
the reference pics are pretty dark and detail-less, but i think i managed to work it out. i'm actually really happy with how it came out. oh... wait, i DID cheat... i made the base of the final grip in sculpt studio in second life, because i needed the top to be square to meet the arrow rest, and the bottom to be round, to meet the lower grip.
now... i can't QUITE use the bow yet because... it only exists in 3d coat clay. i have to do this arcane "retopology" on it in order to get it into my other 3d programs. on the 3d coat videos it's this wonderfully easy magic method. when i try it... it's just FUBAR.
